Individual factors such as skin tone and elasticity,
muscle contour and fatty excess
must be considered to achieve an optimal result. Areas commonly approached include
the abdomen, flanks, buttocks, thighs and inner arms. Dr. Silverman will discuss your
individual concerns and design a customized operation to best suit your needs.
Abdominoplasty:
An abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck", is designed to firm and smooth your
abdomen. It
is best indicated for those with excessive, loose skin and fat of the abdomen, and
protuberance of the lower abdomen from lax stomach muscles. The procedure removes
excess skin and fat from below the belly-button, to the bikini line, and may also tighten
the muscles of the abdomen. Liposuction of the upper abdomen, flanks and thighs can
be added to the procedure as well, to enhance the overall results. The operation results
in a horizontal scar above the bikini line, extending across the lower abdomen. A
second scar is often hidden within the belly button. Each scar can be designed to lie
within your preferred style of undergarments or swim-wear.
Abdominoplasty is a safe, effective and frequently performed operation with excellent
results and high patient satisfaction. Complications are infrequent, but will be discussed
with you during your consultation. Some pre-existing abdominal scars and smoking can
increase the risks associated with this surgery.
Liposuction:
Liposuction is designed to reduce isolated pockets of fat in the body, which can
cause
these areas to appear out of proportion to the rest of the figure. It can be performed on
most parts of the body, including the neck, breasts, abdomen, flanks, back, inner
arms, thighs, knees and ankles. The procedure removes fat through several small
incisions, and has the advantage of leaving minimal scars. Best results will be obtained
if the skin has enough elasticity to achieve a smooth contour following fat removal. As
such, liposuction alone is best indicated in areas of the body with good skin tone.
Areas with poor skin tone or excessive skin are often best treated using a combination
of liposuction and skin removal. The results of liposuction are permanent, provided that
a stable weight is maintained. However, liposuction should not be considered a
substitute for overall weight loss, and is not an effective treatment for cellulite, or
dimpled skin.
Liposuction is a safe, reliable and effective treatment, which is commonly performed
on many thousands of patients each year. Complications are uncommon, but Dr.
Silverman will discuss these with you and assess your suitability for the procedure
during your initial consultation.
Thigh & Buttock Lift:
Thigh and buttock lifts are procedures designed to elevate and rejuvenate the
lower
body. These procedures are often combined with liposuction, and are necessary only
when significant skin laxity and excess are present in the thigh/ buttock region, in
addition to excess fat. Indications for these procedures are decreasing, however, due
to advances in liposuction, which has the advantage of a limited skin incision. Dr.
Silverman will assess your suitability and provide details of the procedure during your
initial consultation.
