Facial muscles are responsible for squinting, concentrating, and raising your eyebrows, but they may also be causing you to look tired, serious, or older than you feel. One of the most popular and effective non-surgical aesthetic treatments is BOTOX COSMETIC®. Ottawa Plastic Surgery offers BOTOX as a way to help you look naturally rejuvenated with a convenient office visit and no downtime.
To learn more about all the ways we can help you look younger, please request a consultation or call Ottawa Plastic Surgery at (613) 792-4137. We look forward to helping you achieve your cosmetic goals.
How It Works
BOTOX is a wrinkle-smoothing injectable treatment. Instead of filling in wrinkles from beneath the skin as dermal fillers do, BOTOX prevents the facial muscles that cause certain wrinkles from contracting. Within a few days of injection, the treated areas begin to gradually smooth out. Because we treat only specific facial muscles, patients can still make their natural facial expressions and do not look frozen or expressionless.
Improvements From BOTOX Treatments
Our safe, effective BOTOX treatments successfully help Ontario women and men correct a variety of concerns, including:
- Horizontal forehead creases
- Crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows
- Wrinkles on the upper lip
Additional Benefits of BOTOX
Patients who get BOTOX treatments in our Ottawa office visit us from Gatineau, Cornwall, Kingston, and other nearby communities. These men and women enjoy more than just the wrinkle-smoothing benefits. Just a few of the many other advantages of the product include:
- In addition to reducing fine lines and wrinkles, BOTOX can provide a non-surgical brow lift. By slightly raising the outer portion of your eyebrows, these treatments can temporarily revitalize sagging or drooping eyes.
- Younger patients can have BOTOX injections as a proactive treatment to prevent lines and wrinkles.
- BOTOX also is an excellent complement to facial plastic surgery procedures such as eyelid surgery or a facelift surgery.
First you meet with Dr. Silverman or Dr. Boyd and our nurse, Christena McNab, to talk about your specific goals and form a treatment plan. Then Christena, our highly trained injector, performs the in-office BOTOX treatment, which takes about 30 minutes, by injecting the targeted areas with a short, fine needle. Patients usually experience little or no bruising, with a very low risk of side effects or complications. While there is no downtime needed, we recommend keeping your head elevated, avoiding strenuous exercise, and not touching treated areas for the first few hours after treatment. After 4 to 6 days, the desired improvements gradually begin to appear.
Completing Your Facial Rejuvenation
Because both BOTOX and dermal fillers treat signs of aging in different ways, combining these treatments can give you a more complete facial rejuvenation than either treatment on its own. BOTOX treatments may also be used to extend the life of filler treatments and facial plastic surgery by preventing creases from forming again. During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will design the right treatment plan for your cosmetic goals.
Some patients are concerned that BOTOX may create a mask-like, frozen facial appearance. However, your surgeon carefully designs their procedures so that his patients retain their natural expressions. Results from your first treatment will last about 3 to 4 months. Patients who have periodic touch-up treatments often experience results that last longer than 4 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can BOTOX prevent wrinkles from forming?
Most people think of getting BOTOX to minimize existing wrinkles, but some research has shown that BOTOX can actually prevent wrinkles from developing. BOTOX works by temporarily preventing small facial muscles from contracting. It's the repeated muscle contractions that occur when you smile, frown, laugh, and make other expressions that contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Limiting those contractions is one way to delay the formation of wrinkles.
Does BOTOX make you look 'frozen'?
No. The key to effective BOTOX treatments is targeting the muscles with precision and not using too much. The unnatural, "frozen" appearances occur when, for whatever reason, the treatment is overdone. When BOTOX treatments are performed by a skilled injector, you will look natural and more youthful.
How much does BOTOX cost?
As is true of all cosmetic procedures, the price of BOTOX treatments varies depending on a number of factors. Those factors include the injector's level of training, the region where the treatment is performed, and the areas of the face being treated. Most patients compare prices, but it's important to remember that BOTOX injections are a medical procedure and should be done by an experienced and trained injector who understands facial anatomy.
