Getting to know Dr. Cormier

  • What made you decide to become a plastic surgeon?

From the first day of medical school, I knew that I wanted to be a surgeon. As I explored different specialties, plastic surgery stood out as the perfect combination of artistry, anatomy, and technical precision. Beyond the amazing scope of practice as a plastic surgeon, it is incredibly rewarding to witness the positive impact of the procedures we perform on a patient’s self-confidence and well-being.

  • As a plastic surgeon, what are your main goals when working with a patient?

My goal with every patient is to deliver a personalized and patient-centered experience before, during, and after surgery. Every patient is unique and each surgery I perform is tailored to their specific expectations. Above all, I prioritize safety and well-being of my patients. By listening carefully to each patient’s goals, I strive to provide guidance and recommendations to help patients achieve their desired aesthetic outcome.

With that said, rhinoplasty holds a special place as my favourite procedure to perform given the technical challenge and crucial role in enhancing the attractiveness and character of the face. By achieving a balance of the delicate tissues and incorporating inconspicuous scars, I strive to create results that seamlessly blend with each patient’s overall aesthetics and desires.

  • What is your ‘favourite’ procedure to perform?

It’s difficult to narrow down a single ‘favourite’ procedure. I enjoy all procedures of the face, nose, breast, body. However, my passion lies in facial aesthetics including rejuvenation procedures (face/neck lift, brow lift, lip lift, blepharoplasty, fat grafting) and rhinoplasty. Whether it’s addressing a bump on the bridge of the nose or turning the clock on the signs of facial aging, I am drawn to these procedures because they require meticulous attention to detail and a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy.

  • After completing training across Canada and the United States, what motivated your decision to practice in Ottawa?

Training across Canada and the United States has offered a unique perspective on plastic surgery practice and medicine in general. It is a great privilege to be practicing in Ottawa with a world-class team of plastic surgeons and support staff at Ottawa Plastic Surgery. In addition to being a beautiful city with abundant near-by outdoor activities, Ottawa is my hometown and the ideal community for my young family.

  • How has the field of plastic surgery evolved over the years, and what exciting advancements do you anticipate in the future?

Plastic surgery is a constantly evolving field. From minimally invasive procedures with inconspicuous scars to cutting-edge reconstructive techniques, we now have more options for patients than ever to meet their precise needs and expectations. Remarkable advancements in the understanding of facial anatomy and the effects of aging enable us to achieve refreshed, youthful results. Similarly, in rhinoplasty surgery we have seen a shift to preservation rhinoplasty techniques that maintain the delicate harmony of the nose. With further research and technology, I expect that we will continue to see advancements in our approach to these surgeries that optimize results while prioritizing patient safety.
