Thigh, Buttock & Arm Lift

If you experience sagging skin and excess fat on your lower body and upper arms, we offer thigh, buttock, and arm lifts, combined with liposuction, to tighten, sculpt, and improve the appearance of these areas. During consultation, Dr. Silverman or Dr. Boyd will assess your suitability and help to determine which body contouring procedure is most appropriate.

What to expect from thigh, buttock, and arm lift surgery

Thigh, buttock or arm lift procedures are performed under general or spinal anesthesia.

Thigh lift (thighplasty)

Your plastic surgeon focuses on excising the excess skin on your hips and inner and/or outer thighs. Skin is removed and tightened to improve contour and tone.

Inner thigh lift (medial): an incision is made at the top of your inner thigh and a wedge of skin and fat is removed, extending to a variable degree down the inner thigh toward the knee, depending on the extent of loose skin involved. The incision is then sutured, resulting in tighter skin and improved contour.

Outer thigh lift (lateral): an incision is made at the top of your outer thigh, near your hip, and excess skin is removed to achieve optimal contour. This procedure is usually suited to patients who have experienced significant weight loss.

Buttock lift (gluteal augmentation)

Lift your posterior to a more youthful position. During this procedure, your surgeon tightens and reshapes the buttocks to give you a rejuvenated shape by removing excess skin and lifting loose, sagging skin. Incision locations may include the lower back above the top of the buttocks, crease of the groin, or the crease of the buttocks. Fat grafting may be added to this procedure if increased shape and projection to the buttocks is desired as well.

Arm lift (brachioplasty)

Reduces fatty deposits and excess fat and skin from the upper arm using a combination of liposuction and skin removal, resulting in smooth and tight contours for a toned look. The incision for an arm lift often runs from the underarm to above the elbow, camouflaged along the inseam of the arm at rest beside the body.

Liposuction

Your plastic surgeon usually uses liposuction to improve the contours of the thigh, buttock and arm areas, resulting in minimal scarring. However, if a significant amount of excess skin is present, liposuction alone is not sufficient and can result in increased skin laxity. This situation typically occurs if a patient has experienced significant weight loss or fluctuations, stretch marks, or extremely loose, lax skin.

Recovery

Recovery from any body contouring procedure will require 1-2 weeks. Compression garments need to be worn to help ease swelling and provide support while the tissue heals. You can usually resume normal activities in 4-6 weeks.
