Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that modifies the size of the labia by removing excess skin or tissue. You may choose labiaplasty to create a more symmetrical shape or to reduce the size of the inner (labia minora) or outer (labia majora) lips of the labia.
Why would someone get labiaplasty?
There are many reasons women choose labiaplasty for vaginal rejuvenation. Although it is common to choose labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons like a more subtle or conventional appearance, there are a number of concerns that may lead you to consider labiaplasty.
Living with an enlarged, stretched or sagging labia can be uncomfortable or painful. An elongated labial shape can also cause discomfort during everyday activities like riding a bicycle or sitting for long periods of time. You may experience discomfort during intercourse if the lips of your labia are unusually or unevenly shaped.
Every surgery is different. During a consultation, your surgeon will discuss your unique questions, concerns, and goals for this surgery with you – to create a strategy for your labiaplasty specific to your needs.
How long does labiaplasty recovery take?
Before you can enjoy the results of your surgery, you’ll need to schedule some time to recover and rest following surgery. Many patients are surprised to know you’ll be able to walk and sit on the same day of your surgery. Some gentle movement like a short stroll is useful in maintaining circulation and promoting effective healing.
Patients should avoid sexual intercourse for 4-6 weeks following surgery and abstain from intense or vigorous exercise for approximately a month following surgery.
