What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Filler procedures consist of a soft injectable gel made from hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a sugar-based molecule that is naturally present in the skin but diminishes as we age. Injectable dermal fillers replace HA to boost and plump the skin. This very popular treatment can help by filling lines, severe facial wrinkles, and facial creases by adding volume to the treated area.

  • Restylane®️

Used to diminish wrinkles and increase volume in the face, Restylane®️ is a very versatile product that can be used around the mouth, in the cheeks, and to augment the lips.

Most often used around the lips and to provide volume in the cheeks, JUVEDERM®️ can last up to 12 months and is most appropriate for deeper and more severe lines and wrinkles. Includes lidocaine which decreases discomfort during the procedure.

A thicker consistency than JUVEDERM®️, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® works best for age-related volume loss in the cheeks and around the chin. With just one treatment, patients can look rejuvenated for up to 18 months. Includes lidocaine to ease discomfort during treatment.

Designed specifically for lip enhancement, JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® plumps the lips and minimizes the appearance of perioral rhytids or perioral lines or wrinkles around the mouth.

The BELOTERO®️ line includes 6 different products, SOFT, BALANCE, INTENSE, VOLUME, SHAPE, AND CONTOUR. There is a product that is tailored to treat every area on the face safely and effectively. This is a very versatile filler that is also an excellent option for multiple concerns, ranging from more pronounced areas, such as the nasolabial folds, to more delicate areas, such as lip augmentation and smile lines. During your consultation, she will work with you to identify areas you’d like to target, discuss your treatment goals, determine which type of filler will provide the best results, and develop a treatment plan. Pre- & Post-Surgery

The info you need to plan your dermal filler procedure.

What to Expect on the Day of Dermal Filler Injections

When it’s time for your dermal filler injections, Christena McNab will make sure that you are comfortable and relaxed in our reclining chair.

During treatment, the filler is gently injected into the deep layers of your skin with a fine needle. This provides instant volume, smooths away the appearance of wrinkles, and enhances the elasticity and texture of the skin. Treatment takes 30-60 minutes to complete and you will be able to see significant results instantly.

Dermal Filler Recovery

There is almost no downtime required after this procedure and there are no known long-term side effects. You may experience bruising and minor swelling. Results are not permanent but can last up to 12 months. Additional treatments can be repeated when necessary but should be evident as your facial features begin losing volume.

How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost in Ottawa?

The price of dermal fillers in Ottawa varies by geographic region, the skill and training of the injector, and the areas being treated, among other factors. An injector with less experience may charge less than a plastic surgeon’s practice, but it’s important to remember that filler injections are medical procedures.

Most patients compare prices when considering cosmetic treatments, but we recommend that patients don’t base their choice primarily on price. While fillers are extremely safe in experienced hands, serious complications can occur. Your procedure must be performed by a skilled and experienced injector, in an environment with appropriate surgical backup if required.

We are pleased to be able to offer such support to all of our patients. When we plan your procedure during a personal consultation, we’re happy to offer you a customized quote.

Dermal Fillers FAQ’s

  • Are Dermal Fillers Painful?

No. Most injectable treatments are formulated with a local anesthetic called lidocaine that helps minimize discomfort. We also use very small, thin, specialized needles to inject the filler to help patients remain comfortable during the treatments.

  • How long do results from Dermal Fillers last?

After only one treatment, your results will be instant and long-lasting, but not permanent. Results can last 6-9 months.

  • What can Dermal Fillers be used for?

Our filler treatments can provide a variety of instant improvements, including:

    • Smoothing folds that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth
    • Adding contour and volume to the lips
    • Providing wrinkle correction
    • Filling out lower eyelid hollows
    • Restoring volume to the cheeks and around the chin
    • Christena can provide more information about expectations and results during your consultation.
  • What’s the difference between JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® and Belotero?

The fillers are similar, but you may be a better candidate for one or the other. All three fillers are made with hyaluronic acid and are useful for treating many of the same facial areas. It’s also common for us to use multiple fillers in a single session for more comprehensive rejuvenation.

  • What’s the difference between dermal fillers and BOTOX®️?

While both are injections, and it’s understandable why patients can be confused, there is a difference! BOTOX®️ relaxes muscles in the face, releasing tension that causes wrinkles, whereas dermal fillers plump up the skin, smoothing out the appearance of wrinkles.

Many of our patients will often combine their dermal fillers and BOTOX for a stunning appearance.

  • What are the risks associated with Dermal Fillers?

Our team at Ottawa Plastic Surgery has the knowledge, skills, and training to make Dermal Fillers safe, however, there are certain risks and side effects that are associated with the injections. During your consultation at Ottawa Plastic Surgery, Christena will review these risks with you and answer all your questions.
