What to Expect from Dermal Fillers

Our clinical aesthetic nurse specialist, Christena, performs all dermal filler treatments in-house. During your consultation, she will work with you to identify areas you’d like to target, determine which type of filler will provide optimal results, and develop a treatment plan. If you would like to receive treatment the same day as your consultation, please let us know at the time of booking.

During treatment, the filler is gently injected into the deep layers of your skin with a fine needle. This provides instant volume, smooths away the appearance of wrinkles, and enhances the elasticity and texture of the skin. Treatment takes 30-60 minutes to complete and you will be able to see results instantly.

Dermal Fillers Frequently asked questions

  • How much do dermal fillers cost in Ottawa?

The price of dermal fillers in Ottawa varies by geographic region, the skill and training of the injector, and the areas being treated, among other factors. An injector with less experience may charge less than a plastic surgeon’s practice, but it’s important to remember that filler injections are medical procedures. Most patients compare prices when considering cosmetic treatments, but we recommend that patients don’t base their choice primarily on price. While treatment with fillers is extremely safe in experienced hands, serious complications can occur. It is very important that your procedure be performed by a skilled and experienced injector, in an environment with appropriate surgical backup if required. We are pleased to be able to offer such support to all of our patients. When we plan your treatments during a personal consultation, we’re happy to offer you a customized quote.

  • What types of dermal filler do you offer?

All of our fillers are hyaluronic acid-based, highly effective, and require no downtime after treatment. During your consultation, Christena will help you determine which dermal filler will provide optimal results.

  • Restylane®️

Used to diminish wrinkles and increase volume in the face, Restylane®️ is a very versatile product that can be used around the eyes and mouth, as well as the forehead, cheeks, and lips.

  • JUVÉDERM®️

Most often used around the lips and to provide volume in the cheeks, JUVEDERM®️ can last up to 18 months and is most appropriate for deeper and more severe lines and wrinkles. Includes lidocaine which decreases discomfort during the procedure.

  • JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®️

A thicker consistency than JUVEDERM®️, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® works best for age-related volume loss in the cheeks and around the chin. With just one treatment, patients can look rejuvenated for up to 18 months. Includes lidocaine to ease discomfort during treatment.

  • JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA®

Designed specifically for lip enhancement, JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® plumps the lips and minimizes the appearance of perioral rhytids or perioral lines or wrinkles around the mouth.

  • BELOTERO®️

BELOTERO®️ is best suited to smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. This is a very versatile filler that is also an excellent option for multiple concerns, ranging from more pronounced areas, such as the nasolabial folds, to more delicate areas, such as lip augmentation and smile lines. BELOTERO®️ also contains lidocaine, which makes for a more comfortable treatment session.

  • What’s the difference between JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®?

The fillers are similar, but you may be a better candidate for one or the other. Both fillers are made with hyaluronic acid and are useful for treating many of the same facial areas. Dr. Silverman may recommend one or the other based on his assessment of your unique needs and the condition of your skin. It’s also common for us to use multiple fillers in a single session for a more comprehensive rejuvenation.

  • What’s the difference between dermal fillers and BOTOX®️?

Both treatments are injections; however, BOTOX®️ relaxes muscles in the face, releasing tension that causes wrinkles, whereas dermal fillers plump up the skin, smoothing out the appearance of wrinkles. These treatments can be combined.

  • How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers are a soft injectable gel made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar-based molecule that is naturally present in skin but diminishes as we age. Dermal fillers replace the hyaluronic acid to boost and plump the skin.

  • How long do results from dermal fillers last?

Results are instant and long-lasting, but not permanent. Results can last 6-9 months.

  • What can dermal fillers be used for?

Our filler treatments can provide a variety of instant improvements, including:

    • Smoothing folds that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth
    • Adding contour and volume to the lips
    • Providing wrinkle correction
    • Filling out lower eyelid hollows
    • Restoring volume to the cheeks and around the chin

Christena can provide more information about expectations and results during your consultation.

  • Are dermal fillers painful?

No. Most injectable treatments are formulated with a local anesthetic called lidocaine that helps minimize discomfort. We also use very small, thin, specialized needles to inject the filler to help patients remain comfortable during the treatments.
