What to expect from IPL photorejuvenation
This procedure is a safe and non-invasive way to treat imperfections in your skin. IPL is a type of laser treatment that uses concentrated light waves to target pigmentation. Light energy is turned into heat energy, and this heat breaks down pigmentation in the skin, causing a wound that triggers the body’s natural healing process. As the body heals, the damaged and discolored cells will be replaced with new, healthy cells, resulting in clearer, smoother-looking skin.
IPL treatment is performed while you are lying down. Your clinical aesthetician will provide protective glasses to wear during treatment and apply a cooling gel to the area that is being treated. You will feel a stinging sensation during treatment from the heat energy, but the laser pulses are brief and can be timed based on your comfort.
In advance of your treatment, avoid sun exposure and quit using abrasive skin care products two weeks prior. On the day of, do not wear cosmetics.
The procedure takes about 30 minutes to complete. You may see improvement after 1 treatment, although we recommend 2-5 treatments for optimal results. Treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart to allow for healing. Additional treatments for maintenance may be required.
Recovery
There is no downtime with this procedure, but you will experience redness and mild soreness post-treatment. The sensation of a mild sunburn, redness, discomfort, bruising and swelling, may last a few days after treatment.
