description

What are Lip Fillers?

Lip Fillers are a cosmetic procedure where an injection is used to make lips appear fuller and more defined. The most commonly used fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps to hydrate and plump your skin. As you age, your body’s production of hyaluronic acid naturally decreases, which is why Lip Fillers are an excellent choice to improve your appearance and maintain full, pouty lips.

At Ottawa Plastic Surgery, we offer HA fillers in the form of Restylane®, BELOTERO®, JUVÉDERM®, VOLBELLA®, and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® to plump your lips and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, ultimately restoring and improving your youthful contours.

You can learn more about these dermal fillers on their dedicated page on our website.

Who are the Best Candidates for Lip filler?

Ottawa Plastic Surgery accepts patients from all over. There are not many contraindications to receiving dermal filler. They include:

  • The safety of Dermal fillers has not been tested on pregnant or breast-feeding patients.
  • You will not be treated if you have an active cold sore or if you have active skin irritation in the area to be treated. If you are prone to regular cold sores, you will receive a prescription for an anti-viral medication to take before your treatment.
  • At OPS we prefer not to treat a patient if they present with an active infection at the time of the treatment. For the safety of the patient and to ensure a great outcome we will have you return once the infection is resolved.

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting Lip Fillers in Ottawa is to schedule your initial consultation with Christena McNab. During this appointment, you will discuss your goals and desired outcome with Christena. She will assess your lips’ current state and recommend the appropriate treatment plan for them to align with your goals. This is also the perfect time to ask any questions or raise any concerns you may have about the procedure, aftercare, and cost. Your provider will go over any risks involved and discuss whether you are a suitable candidate for the treatment.

Once the two of you are satisfied with the details of your Lip Filler treatment, a custom treatment plan will be made for you if you’d like. We can perform the treatment immediately after your consultation. If you would like to reschedule for another day for any reason, our Patient Coordinator will be happy to assist you with that.

What to Expect on the Day of Lip Fillers

When it’s time for your Lip Filler treatment, it will be performed right here in our office. First, your provider will clean your lips with an antiseptic solution to ensure they are free from bacteria and contaminants. If requested, a topical numbing cream can be applied to minimize any discomfort during the injection process. Next, the HA filler will be injected in small doses using a very fine needle into strategic locations on your lips. The filler will be lightly massaged to evenly spread it around, and more will be added if needed.

The entire process typically takes only a few minutes, and you can expect to see immediate results.

Lip Fillers Recovery

After your Lip Filler treatment, your injector will give you an ice pack to apply to the treated area to help reduce swelling and discomfort. You may also be advised to avoid certain activities, such as drinking alcohol or vigorous exercise, for a short period of time after the treatment.

Overall, Lip Fillers are quick, easy, and relatively painless treatments, and you should be able to resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure is done.

How Much Do Lip Fillers Cost in Ottawa?

The cost of Lip Fillers in Ottawa can vary depending on several factors, such as the amount of filler needed, the type of filler used, and the technique involved. During your consultation, our experienced injector will assess your needs and discuss the best treatment plan and associated costs with you.

Lip Fillers FAQ’s

  • Are Lip Fillers Painful?

Lip Fillers can cause some discomfort during the injection process, but the discomfort is typically minimal and well-tolerated. Before the treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to the lips to minimize pain or discomfort during the injection. After the treatment, our patients may experience some mild swelling or tenderness and bruising, which can be managed with ice and over-the-counter pain medication, if needed, and will subside in a day or two.

  • How many appointments will I need?

The number of appointments needed for Lip Filler in Ottawa may be based on the desired results of your lips. Most patients only require one appointment to achieve the desired fullness or silhouette. During your consultation, you can discuss the possibilities of what can be achieved for your lips with additional appointments, as well as learn about future touch-up appointments.

  • How long until I see results?

You may see some immediate results after the Lip Filler injections, but the full effect of the treatment will be visible after a few days when any swelling or bruising has subsided. Generally, the results of Lip Fillers last between 6 and 12 months. It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your injector to ensure the best results and longevity of the treatment.

  • Can I combine Lip Fillers with other procedures?

At Ottawa Plastic Surgery, we understand that achieving your desired look often involves a combination of treatments. Many of our Lip Filler patients choose to combine their treatments with other skin rejuvenation or injectable procedures for a complete, harmonious look. Whether you are interested in combining your Lip Fillers with other Dermal Fillers, BOTOX, or another form of facial rejuvenation, we are committed to helping you achieve your aesthetic goals.

We encourage you to discuss your face, skin, and body goals with your provider during your initial consultation. They will be able to offer their best suggestions and solutions to help you achieve your desired appearance.

  • What are the risks associated with Lip Fillers?

With every Lip Filler procedure, there are some possible side effects that every patient should be aware of, which can include, but are not limited to:

    • The area treated may be sensitive for a few days following the treatment
    • Bruising and swelling. Swelling usually subsides the following day
    • Tissue death (a.k.a. vascular compromise, which can occur if lip filler is injected into or around an artery). This is a very rare complication

Please contact Ottawa Plastic Surgery immediately if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
