As Ottawa’s premier surgical and skincare centre, we’re always bringing you the best and most effective treatments the aesthetic world has to offer. This fall, we’re thrilled to be offering dermaplaning, a highly-effective exfoliating treatment for dull, uneven skin and fine lines. Sure to be a new patient-favourite, this non-invasive treatment offers instant results with zero downtime.
Dermaplaning is one of the most effective ways to exfoliate your skin. Using precise strokes of a surgical blade, dermaplaning gently removes dead layers of skin and peach fuzz that can trap dirt and oils and lead to breakouts. Without causing superficial irritation, dermaplaning rejuvenates the skin to reveal a fresh, even complexion almost instantly.
Dermaplaning works to treat dull, rough, or uneven skin, reduces the appearance of fine lines by increasing cell turnover rate, enables deeper product penetration and even improves laser treatment results by removing dead layers of skin. Because it also removes fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) that can trap dirt and oils, it can reduce breakouts while promoting soft, smooth, glowing skin. Dermaplaning is not recommended for those with active acne, or skin that is highly reactive, sensitive, or oily.
When performed by a qualified Medical Aesthetician, dermaplaning is extremely safe and comfortable for most skin types. The quick and easy treatment does not hurt; most patients compare it to the feeling of shaving or scraping along the skin.
This is a question we commonly hear from patients, but we’re happy to report that it’s a myth! Using dermaplaning to remove vellus hairs, also known as peach fuzz, will not cause hair to become thicker, darker, or stimulate hair growth as the treatment does not disturb the follicle or hair root. Once you have experienced the very smooth, hairless skin that a dermaplaning treatment results in, you may be able to notice the subsequent regrowth of vellus hairs – this is simply the return of your normal hair growth cycle.
The best part about this non-invasive treatment is that there’s no downtime, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule and perfect leading up to a special occasion. You may notice some slight redness following your treatment, but you should be able to return to most day-to-day activities immediately.
While the cost saving benefits of these kits is attractive, an at-home treatment can easily damage your skin. This is because it is nearly impossible to achieve the ideal angles and tautness of your skin for an even and precise treatment yourself. Additionally, if the treatment is too heavy handed, your skin barrier can become compromised—leading to problems of sensitivity, dehydration and acne. Our Medical Aesthetics team has the specialized training to deliver a safe and effective treatment every time.
We’ve added two dermaplaning options to our treatment lineup:
Relax as your skin is cleansed and exfoliated prior to dermaplaning. We’ll follow up with a ZO Radical Night Repair peel with 1% slow-release retinol to help your skin achieve maximal renewal. We recommend a series of four treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart.
Add dermaplaning to your chemical peel treatment to enhance penetration and amplify your results.
