Eyelid Surgery

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is designed to enhance the upper and/or lower eyelids, resulting in a brighter, more alert, and rested appearance. Some patients want eyelid enhancement to reverse signs of aging, while others may have inherited conditions that can cause them to seek surgery as young adults.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) in Ottawa can correct loose, hanging upper eyelid skin, bags and dark circles under the eyes, sagging lower lids, and eyelid puffiness. Surgically reducing and tightening the excess skin, fat and muscle of the eyelids can correct these concerns. In addition, Dr. Howard Silverman or Dr. Kirsty Boyd can combine eyelid surgery with related procedures that target concerns such as crow's feet, frown lines, and drooping eyebrows.

Any medical conditions accompanying eyelid problems, such as dry eyes, thyroid abnormalities, glaucoma, high blood pressure, or diabetes, may require special attention. Your plastic surgeon will discuss these issues with you during your consultation.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

The eyes are possibly the most expressive portion of one's face, and often conveys emotions and mood. As such, the appearance of the eyes is of paramount importance in one's facial aesthetics. The eyelids often reveal the first signs of facial aging and relaxation that patients wish to address. Blepharoplasty in Ottawa is a commonly performed cosmetic procedure. The results often last for many years and can dramatically improve your appearance. During your initial consultation, Dr. Silverman or Dr. Boyd fully evaluates your eyes, describes the procedure, and discusses any related potential complications.

Upper Eyelid:

During your eyelid surgery, your plastic surgeon reduces the excess fat and skin on your upper eyelids. He makes the incision in the creases of your upper eyelid to take ou the excess skin and fat. Your surgeon then repositions and tightens the remaining tissue to create a youthful appearance.

Lower Eyelid:

To address the lower lid, your surgeon makes incisions and reduces excess fat and skin. He then tightens and contours the remaining tissue to provide a tighter and tauter appearance. In addition, he can improve your appearance by tightening and repositioning the underlying muscles in the area. In Ottawa, every eyelid surgery procedure is uniquely tailored to the individual. Dr. Silverman or Dr. Boyd will address specific concerns and desires during your consultation.
