Improving the size, shape, contour, and symmetry of the breasts can be achieved by a variety of means. If you have breasts that are smaller than desired, or breasts that have lost volume or shape with aging, pregnancy, or weight loss, it may be time to consider a breast augmentation with implants here in Ottawa, Ontario. Patients from Gatineau, Cornwall, Kingston and other surrounding communities choose Dr. Howard Silverman and Dr. Kirsty Boyd because they offer the latest options and techniques to give each patient a beautiful, customised result.
Is Breast Augmentation Right for You?
The best candidates for breast augmentation have a simple goal: making their breasts larger and in better proportion with the rest of their bodies. Aside from wanting increased breast volume, excellent candidates are in good physical health and have clear expectations about their results.
If you are looking into breast enhancement as a way to correct sagging tissue or to make the position of your breasts more perky, you may want to consider a breast lift. If you want to both correct sagging and increase volume, your surgeon may be able to combine the benefits of a breast lift and a breast augmentation in a single procedure.

Planning Your Breast Augmentation
Because every patient is unique, many different factors go into a successful breast augmentation surgery outcome. As such, Dr. Silverman or Dr. Boyd will assist you in making the necessary decisions and choices which will contribute to your ultimate result.
Your surgical options include implant pocket placement and incision location. While there are several choices for incision location, such as around the areola and in the armpit, our doctors usually use the inframammary incision. It's been demonstrated to provide the greatest success rates with the lowest rate of surgical complications for most patients. However, we occasionally make exceptions in unique circumstances. We'll discuss these during your consultation.
Your Breast Augmentation Procedure
Our Ottawa surgeons perform breast augmentation while you are under general anesthesia. However, this surgery is outpatient, which means you'll be able to go home the same day.
During the procedure, your surgeon begins by making an incision based on the preferences you discussed in your consultation. Your incision may be made around the lower edge of your areolas (periareolar), along the fold beneath the breast (inframammary), or even in the armpit (transaxillary).
Once the incision is made, your surgeon creates a pocket within your breast tissue to house the implant, places it, and shapes the result to your specifications before closing the incisions.
Your Recovery and Result
Today's efficient techniques make recovery after breast augmentation quicker and more comfortable than ever. Our surgeons generally instruct patients to plan for 1 week off from work. It's important to give yourself plenty of time to rest and heal at home during the initial recovery period.
In the weeks and months following your surgery, your doctor will gradually clear you to get back to your favorite activities, including exercise. You can view pre- and postoperative recommendations here to help you plan for your surgery.
