Whether you have naturally thin or uneven lips, or you’ve seen a loss in volume and definition with age, chances are you’ve considered lip injections. If you’re unfamiliar with lip filler, you may have some questions or concerns that are keeping you from taking the plunge. We’re here to provide all the information you need to make an informed decision about this treatment including how the treatment works, the benefits, the results you can expect from treatment, and of course, recovery.
At Ottawa Plastic Surgery, every lip filler patient meets with Dr. Silverman or Dr. Boyd, and our nurse injector Christena McNab, who will all work closely to develop a treatment plan that respects your individual goals. Our surgeons prioritize meeting with every single patient before they undergo injectable treatments – this level of involvement in the patient experience is not something you will find everywhere, but it ensures stellar outcomes. Christena is a trusted and experienced injectables artist who has treated thousands of patients since beginning her career in 1998. Her artistry ensures natural results and respect facial proportions.

How lip injections work.
Dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM and BELOTERO are comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring sugar found in your body. When skillfully injected into the lips, the substance works together with the body’s own hyaluronic acid to instantly restore lost volume while simultaneously stimulating collagen production for naturally fuller lips.
Christena will perform the in-office treatment, which takes about 30 minutes. Lip injections are extremely safe and highly effective at achieving desired results. The procedure can be repeated as many times as the patient desires as the results fade, and these products have no known long-term negative side effects.
How much does lip filler cost?
At Ottawa Plastic Surgery, the cost of lip filler starts at $450.
How much lip filler do I need?
The answer to this is based very much on your natural proportions and the outcome you’re looking for. We often recommend approaching lip filler in stages to gradually ease into the ultimate enhancement you’re looking for.
How long does lip filler last?
Treatments can last anywhere from 6 months to a year!
Are lip injections right for you?
Lip injections are ideal for someone who desires effective, rapid, and safe results with little to no recovery. If you’re looking to add volume to your lips, correct an uneven smile, or soften lines around the mouth, this treatment may be right for you.

- Add volume to the lips
- Redefine lip contours
- Reduce and soften lines around the mouth
- Create symmetry
- Reduce and soften lines near the mouth
- Pull a downward smile back up
Recovery + Results.
The treatment is performed with very little discomfort, and has almost no downtime for recovery, so you can return to your day-to-day activities immediately. In some cases, you may notice some minor swelling and sensitivity at the injection site, and we recommend using an ice pack to help minimize these effects after injection.
How long does it take for lip filler to settle?
It typically takes about 7-14 days for lip filler to settle. In this time, any potential swelling or bruising should have gone down and the filler itself will have settled into place.
